volunteers removed 56,400 pounds of old tires and 280,540 pounds of trash and debris from the Ocala National Forest.
Despite extreme heat and repeated equipment malfunctions, volunteers and forest personnel in their own vehicles, some pulling their own trailers, and aided by volunteered heavy equipment, hauled debris to pick-up points where it was lifted into 40-yard containers, then hauled away by Marion County Solid Waste, who worked with Keep Marion Beautiful to handle the tipping fees.
We wish to offer a special thanks to the Marion County Board of Commissioners and the Marion County Solid Waste Department.
We also extend special recognition to Mr. Guy Marwick, who worked to help plan the entire event, then spent two days in the hot sun executing his plan.
Thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated!
P.A.W.S. organized and paid for the balance of the event for only 4,700.00. Thank you to all who donated the funds to make this event possible. We are already thinking about next years event!
